The Portland
Firefighters Hockey Club was formed in July 2004. Since that time
we have competed in many tournaments, have won one championship in
June 2005, and have contributed in raising money for the
National Childhood Cancer Foundation, ALS foundation, Oregon
Burn Foundation and
MDA.
The PFHC competes against Seattle Fire Hockey
Club in charity games twice a year and raise money from
ticket sales for local charities. It's always a great game for a
great cause. In February of 2007 we played to support our own
Portland Firefighter who's son is battling cancer. He was there
to enjoy the game and loved every minute of it. The game puck was
presented to him, as the fan of the game. In November 2007, we
raised money for the Oregon Burn Foundation and November 2008, money
raised will go to the Down Syndrome Network of Oregon. It is
always a great game with the winner hoisting the coveted Golden Skate
Trophy.
Our latest firefighter tournament was in Victoria,
B.C. in April 2008 where we joined 50 other teams in the annual
IAFF Hockey Tournament.
Our next big tournament will be the World Police and Fire Games in
Vancouver, B.C. in August 2009. It is sure to be another
amazing tournament with many Police and Fire hockey teams
attending.
Thanks to our generous sponsors: Portland
Professional Firefighters Association Local 43, MSA, Seawestern
and Tualatin
Valley Professional Firefighters Association Local 1660 for making the
donations to the charities possible. Also Thanks to the Portland
WinterHawks for helping with fund raising.
