Hockey Enthusiasts;
The first game of the Rose Cup tournament was last night at the
Mt. View Dome and it was virtually standing room
only. The club was ready for battle and to give Cascade
a rowdy game. We knew going into this game that if we wanted
to compete against these guys it would take a lot of goals, quick
plays, back checking, and a bit of luck. And we had all of
that for most of the game.
They opened up the scoring quickly and we traded goals
back and forth until the end of the 1st we were up 3-2. With some
nice shots from the blue line with two beautiful deflections by Ryan
and Tom O and some stellar goaltending by Jimmy P we ended the 2nd up
5-3. I know we caught those Cascades off guard, they weren't
expecting this.
Now this next part is where the story changes a bit. Unlike
seeing Klaus naked in the shower for the first time which will live on
vividly in all our minds this next part of the game we would all like
to bottle up and block out of our minds until it festers to the point
of explosion and we wonder why we're in a rubber room with a straight
jacket on deciphering ink blots to a psychologist. (Serenity
Now).
Let's just say we didn't get any more goals in the
third............. the end everyone went home happily ever
after............oh, did I fail to mention they scored 4 goals in the
third?? Minor detail really. It was a combination of us
running out of Red Bull gas, and them figuring out where they are
strong and utilizing it to the fullest. They were a fast team
with major skill up front. They would just shoot the puck and
crash the net, continually. It never quit. They were
continually dominating us in front of our twine. But that's the
only place they really dominated. As I mentioned they crashed the
net and caused chaos in front and that's what it took to beat us.
We kept up and actually controlled the game for the majority of
it. We just ended up getting a bit out skated and out skilled by
this A level hockey club.
Nothing to be ashamed of boys. We did great.
Stats:
goals:
Walker from Tom O and TJ
Good Hands Fieweger from Blue Eyes Gillespie
Ryan from Weaver on a beautiful deflection
Walker unassisted (he claims he kept his eyes open for this one)
Tom O from I think TJ on the beautiful deflected shot from the
Blue line. (the score sheet says Ryan assisted so we'll give it
to him as well)
Penalties:
Ryan for roughing
Petey V for roughing
Me for Hooking
Petey for roughing
Ryan for high sticking
TJ for unsportsmanlikey taking a guys grill out with the cross bar.
Honourable Mention
Walker - you almost had the POG
Ryan with some nice hands not good hands but nice hands
TJ for solid tough D
Pete for some good smart puck handling in our end as well as
protecting our goaltender
Player of the Game:
Jimmy P in net for a great performance despite the loss. You
stopped a lot of shots and covered up a ton of rebounds. Who says
the loss is always the goalies fault??? Congrats on getting hired
as well.
So let's keep up the intensity and take it into tonight's
game. We could have won that game against a strong A level
team. I'm proud of all you guys. Tonight's our night
to get a win.
